The story behind Visible Groundwater
Visible Groundwater is a collaborative mapping project that aims to document the places where groundwater can be seen at the surface: springs, wells, boreholes, seeps, and other features that connect us to the water hidden beneath our feet.
The project started from a simple observation: groundwater is everywhere, but most people rarely notice it. By inviting people to share the locations where they've seen groundwater, we hope to build a growing, community-driven map that makes this invisible resource a little more visible.
This project is run by Dr. Yannick Kremer from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. I'm a geologist with a long-term interest in how water moves underground. I teach several hydrogeology related modules at the university. In my spare time I enjoy spending time in the amazing Scottish countryside. If you have questions, suggestions, or would like to get involved, I'd love to hear from you.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed locations, ideas, and encouragement. This project is built on the generosity and curiosity of its community.
